The festival was organized by, and now commemorates the life of, Maria Bieşu (August 3, 1935 – May 16, 2012) who was a Moldovan opera singer and the chief vocalist of the Chisinau Opera and Ballet Theater. Her artistic excellence brought her international recognition and invitations to sing in other countries.

Overview

During the annual Invită Maria Bieşu festival famous orchestra conductors, opera singers, and ballet dancers perform on two stages in Chisinau.

Artists come from Austria, France, Romania, Russia, Switzerland, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Italy, USA, Japan, etc.) arrive in Chisinau to participate in the festival.

This event has already become an annual feature of Chisinau’s cultural life. The preparations for the festival are made during the whole summer period to receive guests on a due level. The festival had gained a governmental status. Financial support from the Moldovan government allows to invite the most dedicated opera and ballet performers.

Every year the International Opera and Ballet Festival “Va Invita Maria Biesu” has a considerable success. The eyes of the people in the audience shines, they radiate gratitude and great admiration for the talent of all those who participated in the festival.

Today, the International Festival of Opera and Ballet "Maria Bieșu" became one of the main symbols of culture of the Republic of Moldova, but Chișinău - a capital of lyrical art that brings together on the same stage the best autochthon artists, but also artists from the whole world.

Being event unique in its magnitude, especially longitude of its existence, the International Festival of Opera and Ballet "Maria Bieșu" each time could state the national culture and autochthon values.
