At the end of the summer, two holidays are celebrated at once: they are the Independence Day on August 27 and "Limba Noastra" - August 31. Independence Day: August 27, 1989 is the day when Republic of Moldova got independence from the USSR and became a sovereign state. "Limba Noastra" (Our Language) or the Day of National Language: August 31, 1989 is the day when Moldavian language was declared State language as well as Russian - became 2nd state language. Usually for all this period is considered Nation's main events and is declared off. Streets, main buildings and public transport are decorated with flags, flowers, and every day street festivals, shows and fireworks are organized.
